Once we got settled in Eric began doing what he loves. He started a fire. He burned a fire the entire time we were there. It was relaxing to be over there away from
the daily routine of life. I must say our dog Blue had the time of his life. He really does love the water. The moment he saw the water he made a break for it to go jump in. We had to be careful with him though. The water level was pretty high and the current was really strong. But we took him down to the park where there was still a little bit of a swimming hole and he chased sticks in the water for hours. Eric, Tony, and I were even brave enough to jump in the glacier fed water once or twice. We couldn't stay in for too long though. It was way too cold. We will just have to wait till summer time to float down the river.
And of course we saw some wild life while we were over there. I found this little lizard hiding under a rock.
We did do something this trip that we hadn't done before. We ventured further up the road to check things out up river. Rich, Sena and Hugh wanted to go for a bike ride, so we dropped them over up river.
It is amazing how traveling just a short distance up river can change everything. As the elevation increased the river raged even more. We saw more waterfalls coming off the sides of the mountains ( To the right is the Signal Peak Falls), and there were so many more evergreen trees up there.
Later that day Rich told us that there was a big waterfall about 8 miles up river from our place that you could go and see. We decided that it would be worth checking out. I am so glad we decided to go. What we found was Silver Falls. It makes our little Coyote Falls look like a slow trickle of water. The Entiat River Valley has an abnormally high concentration of waterfalls due to its heavily glaciated walls. Which also make the water really cold!
This waterfall is actually part of the Wenatchee National Forest and has trails and everything. It was awesome. Eric, Tony, Rich, Sena, Hugh and I all made the trip up. We had a 1 year old and a guy with a gimpy knee, but the hike wasn't too bad.
It was actually really cool. They had trails with handrails on the switchbacks so no one would go falling off the mountain side. There were a number of bridges that crossed the waterfall. And at about every other switchback there was a viewing area of the fall with a bench so you could take a rest. I was definitely worth the trip up there. I would like to do it again and spend more time checking it out.
