Strawberry Festival

Eric, Tom & I headed over to the island for Strawberry Festival Saturday morning. We went to the pancake breakfast, and then watched Lena in the kids parade. Tom's favorite part of the parade was the music. Especially the bag pipers.

Then we visited with Pam, Paul, Nancy and Dakota for a little while.

Then we watched the firefighters challenge. Both Wes and Tony competed. I don't think that a winner was really named because there was so much cheating going on. But fun was had by all.

Then Tom hit a wall and was totally exhausted. We went to my parents house. He still didn't want to take a nap. We had dinner and he didn't want to do bed time either. It took us 2 hours to finally get him to sleep. Eric and I went up town after he went to bed but I guess he didn't stay asleep. I don't know what was wrong with him. Maybe he just didn't want the fun to end. We were planning on spending some time walking around up at festival on Sunday, but since everyone had minimal amounts of sleep we just went home. I guess we can try again next year.

Hair Cut

Tom had gotten a little trim around the ears before, but he was in real need of a full on hair cut.

I called the kids hair cut place in our neighborhood and they were closed down. So I figured I might as well just do it myself because a regular hair cutting place would probably be pretty hard for him to sit through. It took a long time, but I finally got him all trimmed up. Eric thought I would do a hack job, but I think it turned out pretty good.

Fat Lip

Tom has been getting pretty adventurous. He has been running around faster and trying out new things. Well, it doesn't always turn out good. He took a header into is Lego castle and got a fat lip. He was pretty upset then he started ripping apart his Lego castle. The next day he hit the other bottom lip on his music table. I guess kids have to experiment.

Not a Baby Anymore

Tom is really turning into a toddler and not so much a baby anymore.

He seems to be learning new things all the time. He is speaking so many words now it is hard to keep track. And when he doesn't get them right I can still tell what he means. For instance "Sh!t" is actually "shirt".

He is showing more and more personality. He is such a people person. He loves going to the grocery store and seeing all the people. He pretends at times to be shy at times, but he is really just flirting with the ladies. He loves to give kisses to everyone.

He also a little bit of a temper at times. I have been bitten now. Not fun. And we are trying to break his habit of throwing things. Unfortunately he lost a Thomas Train over the fence at Safeco Field. We have attempted time outs but I don't really think he is understanding yet. But it is a learning process for him.

One thing that has been a huge help with this entering into toddler phase is that we finally found a nanny. At the start of July, Kim our neighbor gal started coming over to spend the mornings with Tom. He is so much happier getting all the attention and getting to play instead of being angry and bored at mom working typing away at the computer. He is a lot less cranky now.

Outdoor Play Area

We sort of have an outdoor play area set up for Tom now. We are still looking for some more outdoor toys, like a little plastic slide, sandbox and something to climb on. But what we have so far he loves to play with. He plays out there every day a couple times a day, and I am sure if we let him he would want to spend all day out there.

Enjoying the Garden

Our garden is doing really great this year. Tom loves walking through it at eating stuff. Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, peas and tomatoes. Now I really have to watch him in the garden because he wants to grab at stuff to pick. Our zucchinis have started coming in and Tom still loves those. Tom even tried some beets that I roasted and he loved them. I knew I would have a veggie lover. He also like to go around and look at the flowers. He knows the sign for flowers now, which is sniffing like you are smelling the flowers. Can't wait till he can start helping with the yard work too.

Kisses

One of Tom's favorite things to do right now is to give kisses. He has been able to do it for a while now. But he loves to give kisses to say hello, goodbye, I love you or just because he feels like it.

Fourth of July

Eric, Tom and I went to see the fireworks at Emerald Downs on July 3rd. Eric and I have gone before, but this was Tom's first time. We took the shuttle from Auburn Station and it worked great. Eric did a little gambling. Tom had a great time interacting with all the people (like always). He like watching the horses, although I don't think he knew what they were exactly. He kept saying car. Then we waited around for the fireworks to start. Tom had never see the big fireworks. At first he was pretty scared by the sound. But then I put him in my lap and covered his ears and he seemed to be mesmerized by the show. Or at least he was so tired he almost passed out.

On the fourth we went down to the Muckelshoot to get some fireworks. All of them were pretty wimpy since we didn't want to freak Tom out. And most people in our neighborhood already spend a ton of money on fireworks. I also went and bought Tom some ear muffs. It took him a few giant bangs to convince him that he wanted to keep them on. But eventually he did. And then he was pretty calm with everything. We set off our little tanks, snakes, parachutes and other assorted wimpy fireworks and then watched the show in the rest of the neighborhood.
