Long Beach

We had yet another great family vacation down at Long Beach, WA this year.

The house we got the last couple years was not available anymore. But the house adjacent to it was. It was a not as modern as the other house, but it was actually bigger and the floor plan worked well for our family. And the great part about it was Uncle Jerry and his family rented the house across the street. It was so much fun to get to spend some time with my cousins and see how big their kids are getting. The kids all had a blast hanging out together of course.

On Friday we all had dinner together and then we had a sang Happy Birthday to my mom and had cake. Tom loved that of course.

And that night I had to do the ALS Ice bucket challenge because I was nominated the night before. So I let the whole gang know that I was nominating them. So we got some ice and some kids buckets and went down to the water to do our ice bucket challenge. I don't think we needed the ice, the water was pretty cold. And a few of is even ran into the water afterward. It was cool that we all got to do it together.

We got to spend a lot of great time at the beach. I got to go boogie boarding and so did Wes, Taylor and Jerry. Lena tried a little but mostly was scared of the waves. Maybe next year. Tom thought he was going to join in but all he wanted to do was hold on to the rope and walk around. Or as he called it "Walking my doggy."

I set up my beach tent again this year. Which was great because Jacob spent almost all his time at the beach either in the tent or the stroller since it was so sunny. The rest of us spent plenty of time sitting by the tent and enjoying the sunshine.

There was also plenty of playing in the water. Tom and Lena built sand castles and watched the waves destroy the.

Lena also decided she was going to carry on the family tradition this year and get buried for the first time. We made her a mermaid. It went pretty fast because she is so small. And she did really good and sat still the whole time.

Oddly on Saturday at lunch time Tom was having snacks that I brought down to the beach for lunch and all of a sudden he started throwing up. He didn't stop till the next morning. We think it must have been something he ate. Fortunately he got better and didn't miss out on too much fun. He was feeling well enough to get around on Sunday so we went up to the kite festival. It wasn't very windy so not many of the big kites were out. So we looked at the booths and then went to the kids rides down the street. Tom get to go on his first ride. Tom and Lena did the merry-go-round. The both had fun. Then Tom decided he was going to try the little cars. But I don't think he liked ridding alone. So they ended the ride short for him. Lena did the tilt-a-whirl and had a blast.

We also decided to get a few family pictures take while there was time and someone to take the pictures for us. They turned out about as good as you can get a 2 year old and a 2 month old to take pictures without taking forever to do it.

Everyone had a great time this year. Great food, good company and great times. We can't wait to do it again.

Roll Over

Guess who rolled over for the first time today. I thought the bar would slow him down when it came to rolling. But it might have actually helped him. He did it about 5 times today.

Garden Tour

Here is your garden tour for the year. I have to say Eric did most of the work this year as far as keeping this looking nice. I spent most of the season pregnant or taking care of a new born.

Tomatoes

Harvest season has begun. We have been eating lots of stuff from the garden. And I have been harvesting whatever I can get out of the garden. Blueberries, carrots, zucchini, and kale and either making it into baby food or freezing it. We have had cherry tomatoes for a while and have been eating them. But I just picked our first big tomatoes and made spaghetti. It looks like it is going to be a great tomato year with them ripening so early. We have even eaten an heirloom tomato already.

2 Month Checkup

Jacob had his two month check up today. It was certainly an adventurous day. I took Tom with us to get a rash checked out. We had it checked out two weeks ago and they said it was probably environmental from the grass or something on it and that it was contagious. The cream they gave us didn't seem to be doing much. And two weeks later it was worse rather than better. I'm glad I brought him with because it turns out he has Impetigo and needed an antibiotic. Jacob checked out fine except his clogged tear duct which we got eye drops for. Then he got 3 shots which he was not happy about. Then we got to wait around at the pharmacy for an hour and a half. Since Tom was contagious for 24 hours until the antibiotics kicked in he could not go to day care. So we all went home so I could work for a couple hours. Then we had to go out to Federal Way to another doctors appointment to get his braces adjusted. A long day. But at least it is over with.  Here is how he measured up to Tom's measurements.

Mariners - Lou Piniella Night

My mom and I went to the Lou Piniella Hall of Fame night. Lot of fun. We had great seats on the left field line. I made a sign of course. Don't mention that I got the number wrong. I did the drawing off a picture on the internet. Didn't think about the fact that it was when he was with a different team and that his number was different. I got called out by a bunch of fans and even on TV. I will fix it for when Lou goes into the MLB Hall of Fame.

The coolest part of the game though was when the left fielder caught a ball practically in my lap. I knew I could catch the ball, but I also knew that I wasn't supposed to get in the way. So I was watching the left fielder and he was coming in fast. He was not a small guy and later I heard his nick name was "Tank". He slammed into the wall right next to me. You can see me flinching on TV. For the record, I wasn't scared of the ball, just Tank.

Piano

We are storing a piano for a friend of mine. We haven't used it a lot except to put pictures on top of it. But Tom has been somewhat interested in it and likes to sit at it and make music.

2 Months Old

Jacob is 2 Months Old today.

His baby acne has cleared up now. He still has a clogged tear duct so his eye is always gooey. He got his fifth and last cast and also got his first braces. The braces are OK. At times it can be difficult. I have to make the shoes really tight or he can pull his foot out of them by using leverage with the bar. The bar is a bit of a pain to put him into things. And when he kicks his legs and hits you with the bar or shoes it hurts. He also headbutts me a lot which is even worse. But, we are managing. The good news is that this week was our first week without a doctors appointment since he was born. The worst week we had three days of doctors appointments.

We have had a little trouble with feeding this month. I don't know if it is because of stress, lack of sleep or what. I got a plugged duct. Since then I have been a little low on milk compared to usual. So he has been really eating all the time now. One night he was screaming so loud he woke up Tom because he was frustrated that he was still hungry. So I did break down and give him a bottle of formula. But we keep plugging away at it and it seems OK. He keeps pooping all the time so he must be getting something. I guess the porker is just on a little bit of a diet.

He is starting to do fun stuff now. Jacob went to his first Strawberry Festival. He is smiling a lot. When I took his pictures today he smiled every time the camera flashed. There were so many smiley pictures it was hard to pick a favorite. He is making more noises.

He is very strong. His neck holds up most of the time now and can hold up his torso a bit too. He has started doing some tummy time. And when he is in the mood and not hungry he likes looking up at the toys on his play mat. I leave the room for a few minutes and find that he has turned in a circle. I have even see him trying to roll over. But he can't do that with his bar on.

Tom loves the play mat too. When baby is on the mat he brings the baby toys out and shows them all to baby. We are still working on being gentle and telling him that he only plays with baby toys because he wants to keep bringing over his toys to play with him. But the funniest things is I keep catching Tom trying to play on the baby mat. I keep telling him not to play in there because he is way to big and I don't want him to break it. But it is pretty funny. Tom loves baby. He has held him on his lap a few times now which he really likes to do. You can tell that Tom can't wait till Jacob is old enough to play with.

Here is a link to Tom at 2 months. The pictures are looking a little similar. I am seeing differences too though.
