Two Year Check Up

Tom had his Two Year Check Up today. He did really well at the doctors office. It helped that we didn't have to wait much. They said that he is healthy and also a very big boy.

Tom's Birthday Party

We only wanted to have a small birthday party for Tom this year because we are so busy and tired right now. So we decided to just do a small party at my parents house. Since we planned on going to the Pinewood Derby on Saturday we decided to stay the night and have the party on Sunday. Lena also stayed with us. Tom and Lena had a lot of fun together. He talks about Lena all the time and how he wants to see her more so he was very excited. They did the Derby, played at the park, and we had dinner at the Hardware Store with my parents. Sunday morning we blew up balloons with a little helium tank I bought. The kids spent hours having fun with the balloons.

Then the party guests arrived and we had ribs and chocolate cake. Tom had so much fun. He loved all his presents so much that he didn't want to finish opening them, he wanted to get down and start playing with them. We are glad he had such a great birthday weekend.

Playground

We had a few minutes to spare on Saturday so we took the Tom and Lena to Ober Park to play around. They both had a great time.

Pinewood Derby

We made it over to the Sportsmen's Club for the Pinewood Derby. I built this red car that I raced. And Eric built the blue car for Tom. We also brought Lena with us and she had her own car too. Tom's car finished 15th in the kids division and Lena finished 16th which was about half way in the pack. So they did pretty good. My car finished second to last in the adult division. But I blame that on Eric. We had an hour and a half to fine tune our cars before the race. I volunteered to watch the kids. Eric spent 5 minutes working on my car. I guess I will let him watch the kids next time :)

Tom is Two!

Tom turned two today. He has grown up so much. He has so much personality now.

He is signing the ABC's and counting to ten. He is starting to learn his colors because he uses crayons every day. He has been doing wood block puzzles and loves them. Not surprised at that since it is hard to find someone in our family who doesn't like puzzles. He is so fast that I have trouble chasing him down now. He still loves reading his books and can tell you the names of most of them when he wants you to ready them. He loves his daycare. He likes to talk about some of the kids at home. He will say "Shelby, Maya, Zada". Yes those are all girls names :)

He has started having temper tantrums. Mostly about toys not working the way he want them to work. So we say "try again", which he will repeat and sometimes he will sort it out. It is a work in progress. He can mostly tell us what he wants and sometimes listens to our requests. Although he does some times like to see what happens when he does the opposite of what we ask. It makes life interesting for sure.

We had a pretty low key birthday today for Tom. We opened a few presents. He was very excited about the little tool set we got him and the wheelbarrow. Notice we are training him up for work already :) Then we took Tom to Red Robin for dinner. He was so excited when they started clapping and singing happy birthday for him. And he loved the Sunday. He had a great day and I am sure he will also have a great Birthday weekend.

Birthday Treats

Tom's daycare said I could bring in treats for his birthday. They hinted that they would prefer something not super sugary especially since he does AM only. So I thought about what I could do with fruit. I bought some premade gram cracker tart shells, premade pudding and raspberries and blueberries. I put them together and it made a great little treat. I gave Tom a tester the night before and he loved it. The next morning when he saw the tray of them he went crazy. Daycare said that the kids loved the treat. Tom had a great day and got a lot of birthday wishes from all the people at school.

Big Boy Seat

Tom finally got to turn his car seat around. Doctor said we had to wait until he was two. We did it a week early, but close enough. He liked seeing out the front. He thought the sun roof was pretty cool too.

A Break from the Rain

It has been raining cats and dogs lately. But we have had some breaks to be able to get outside. Tom has loved seeing all his toys that have been waiting through the winter for him to come back outside. And Eric and I have been working to clean up the garden to uncover all of the stuff that is waking up. OK, mostly Eric. I have helped a little.

Woodpeckers

The woodpeckers have been paying us a visit. Both the woody woodpecker variety and the smaller grey ones with the beautiful red color underneath their wings when they fly. They are very happy Tom bought daddy bird suet for Christmas.

Daddy and Me

One of Tom's favorite books right now is called Daddy and Me. It is a book about a boy and his daddy working on a project together. Today Tom got to do that today.

Tom and Eric like to go to Home Depot on weekends so Eric can shop and Tom can ride in the race car cart. This Saturday they had a kids workshop going on. They didn't stay for the workshop, but they got the bag of materials to do the project at home. So this morning we got the project out. Eric found a small hammer we had that came from a picture hanging set we have. Tom had a blast. It did take a little patience both on Tom and Eric's part. Tom had to learn when he got to play with the hammer and when he had to share. But he was super excited when he got his trojan horse bank all put together. We started to decorate it and realized it came with stickers. So we moved all of Tom stickers to the inside and put the horse stickers on there. Turned out great. I am sure it will break before you know it, but what a great idea.

We are going to have to visit more of Home Depot's Kids Workshops.
