Halloween

Tommy felt a little too cool to where a costume to school. So he dressed like an MLB player with his shades and chain. Jake told me that he really wanted to be cheese. So I ordered him a couple of cheese things to wear. But I also helped him make origami cheese wedges that he could wear on a belt. They had a great time at school. After school we chowed down dinner as fast as possible. Tommy put on a storm trooper costume and then we headed up town. Town did not disappoint. Lot of fun sights to see, music, a movie showing outside at the theatre and ping pong. That kept Tommy and Eric entertained for quite a while. The highlight of the night was the magician that Nicole hired. I asked Nicole where she found him. She said she saw him in a RAM in Tacoma. I couldn't believe it because probably 10 years ago I saw a magician at a RAM in Lacey and he was great. I asked him if he ever worked at a RAM in Lacey and he said yes. I couldn't believe that was the same guy. He was amazing. Then we went back to Gold Beach and did a little trick or treating around the neighborhood. Then we called it a night and the boys went home to sort their candy.

Trunk or Treat

Rushed seems to be the theme of this Halloween. I dropped Tommy off at his fall ball game. Then I took Jake briefly to Trunk or Treat at the Eagles. I got him to take a picture with his favorite car, which was the one with the dog.

Tommy's Fourth Fall Ball Game

It was a busy day. I dropped Tommy off early in the morning. I took Jake around to do his activities and then headed back to Tommy's baseball game. I didn't get to see a lot of it. But he is having a great time.

Carving Pumpkins

It is getting close to Halloween already and we hadn't carved pumpkins yet. So I grabbed 2 from the IGA while Tommy was warming up for soccer. After soccer I had them start on their pumpkins. Other than cutting the top opening they did the rest themselves. I went out to work and let them watch a Halloween movie and get to work.

Tommy's Fourth Soccer Game

Tommy had his fourth soccer game today. He had to defend a penalty kick today. The kid made a good shot. So not something really easy to defend when they hit a corner. But he had a good time.

Installing the HVAC

The HVAC ducting and utility closet unit went in today. It is going to be such a luxury not to have to use space heaters to try and keep the house warm. At times it feels impossible to keep warm. Just keep putting on layers. We also ordered a super high efficient heat pump. Buy, buy $500 heating bills.

Time to Drill

When the foundation was poured the contractor did not put in a sleeve. Our construction company wanted to go under the foundation and our septic contractor wanted to go through. So I asked if I could have someone I know cut the hole. Jake was lucky enough to have late start and watch Grandpa Dean work.

Harvest Festival

I took Jake to the Harvest Festival while Tommy was at soccer practice. He had a ton of fun. It was a big ball of chaos.

Drying Out the House

Roof and windows done. Now we are back to cleanup mode. There is not too much standing water in the structure at the moment but I sucked out the rest and then started up all the fans. We had a lot of people offer to lend us fans. And I get the lovely job of drying out our crawlspace. I just finished lecturing the boys that they better not be throwing any balls or rocks at my windows.

Jake is such a show boat. When he gets the stage he sure likes to put on a show. Today when he got the ball as goalie he put on a show while everyone impatiently waited until he finally decided who to kick or throw it to.

Rain, Rain Go Away

We now have all the plywood up on the roof and the sides of the house. We have been constantly trying to keep it dry. I has had inches of water sitting it in. I have been pushing it out with a broom. over and over. Then sucking it up with a wet vac. Then trying to dry it out with fans when it is not raining. Then when it rains I have to unplug the fans and have to start the whole process again. This has been a long drawn out process. Glad that the plywood is up. It is keeping some of the rain out but there are still leaks through the wood. Next come the windows, doors and a roof. It can't come soon enough.

Rainbow Before the Storm

Today at practice there was a huge rainbow. There is always a good view from the field. Sunsets, moonlight, starlight. There is often a sight to see. Today the rainbow was so huge. And then it turned into a double rainbow. And then it proceeded to rain storm.

Mr. Sears Funeral

We said goodbye to Mr. Sears today. He was the dad to my teammates and classmates. He was a teacher to Eric and I. He was the person who got Eric into pickleball. And he was the person who married us. He will be missed.

We caught an early boat and headed out to Puyallup for Tommy's soccer game today. It was a super foggy morning. I didn't get many pictures with Tommy being in the goal for a fair amount of the game.

Sportsman's Club Chili Cookoff

Eric didn't tell me exactly what we were doing at the Sportsman's Club, but we went there for dinner. Turns out it was a chili cookoff. Good thing Tommy was at a fall ball double header and we had Jake with us. Jake is a chili machine. He was very happy getting to try all the chili. It was pretty fun taste testing them all.
