It's All About The Plating

The boys have wanted to do more cooking as they have been watching some cooking shows with me. So we got them some brownie mix and some toppings so they could play chef. I helped them with the oven and the cutting of the brownies to get them in the bowl. But they did the rest themselves. They were pretty proud of themselves.

Vashon at the Mariners

Tonight was epic. I think that our boys will remember it always. I don't recall ever getting to do anything so cool when I was a kid. Vashon school district and community got over 600 tickets to go to the Mariners game. They arranged bus rides for those that wanted it. And because we had some many people going they did a drawing for one student to throw out the first pitch. It was one of Tommy's class mates and opposing pitchers from their little league. We rode the bus and saw tons of people. There was a whole little league cheering section and they got on the big screen twice. They were having so much fun. Thank you Danny Rock and all who organized it as well as our bus drivers. It was really a night to remember.

Tommy's 6th Game

Tommy's team got another win today. He also pitched again. Although it wasn't his most focused I have seen him pitch. Some were good and then some were 5 feet over the batters head. I asked him what was distracting him so much. He said there were a lot of people talking in the other teams dugout and he couldn't keep focus. Oh well. He did get to throw the final pitch for a strike out.

Dinner and Smores

We went over to Tony and Susan's for dinner and smores. The Smith's were there as well. I think the kids had a great time hanging out.

Tommy's All-Star Games

Tommy had an all star day double header against a couple teams from Lynwood. In the first game they won and it is the best I have seen any of the kids play all year. Throwing strike outs, great defense and a couple home runs. They were a little tired in the second game and lost. But it was a great day for baseball and the kids had a great time.

Lena's Track Meet

I missed the beginning of Lena's track meet because I had to work. But Eric and the boys got to see most of it. Apparently Tommy was running on the sidewalk next to the track trying to beat the runners down the stretch. What a silly boy. I got to see Lena do the throwing events. She has really great form considering she started last year.

Tommy's Fifth Game

Tommy had a great day at the plate today. He got on base a number of times. And he finished the game with a hustle home run. I don't know if his base coach told him to stay at 3rd. But his favorite thing is to run the bases, so he wasn't going to let anything hold him back.

Fishing Derby

It was a really rainy fishing derby yesterday, but Tommy caught a little fish. Jake has a runny nose so he did not get to go this time. But Tommy was pretty excited about cooking his trout and eating it for dinner tonight.

Tommy's Fourth Game

Tommy had a great game today. He made great contact with the ball. And he pitched a lot of strikes today. And his team won. Super proud of him for sticking with the pitching. During his last game he had a rough time getting the ball over the plate and I told him to "Keep his chin up and keep trying". He replied back, "I know. I am mom." Like it was no big deal. He wasn't upset. He just kept trying. And all his hard work paid off today. Go Tommy!

Goodbye Jimmy Cat

Tonight we had to say goodbye to our Jimmy cat. A little over 12 years ago I went into a animal shelter and picked out Jimmy's sister Jessi. I was waiting in a really long line for over an hour to pay for her. In the lobby were cats in cages with discount stickers with cats that they were trying to get rid of. This pretty tabby with beautiful coloring kept making friendly noises at me and pawing at the cage to say hi. I told them we would take him too. So glad we did because he was such a nice cat. We will miss you Jimmy.

Jake's Third Game

Jake had his third game. I stayed home with Tommy. Eric took Jake. He played catcher today. He wasn't too sure about it, but did fine. I could have sworn last time he played catcher he said he loved it. He got a couple hits and scored a run. He seemed to have a good game. We were so surprised it didn't rain again after the forecast looked horrible going into the weekend.

Mother's Day Surprise

Here we go again. Tommy has COVID. He went to be with a scratchy throat last night. He had a runny nose and a little cough. We tested him and he is positive. He is fine. Just bored and cranky that he is stuck in his room. Fun times.

Since we are in quarantine we could not go see my mom today. But we sent her a little message. The boys came up with a funny, weird song for her. What weirdos.

Mother's Day Brunch

The boys and I have been watching Master Chef kids lately. It is a kids cooking show. So Jake had been asking if he could do some cooking. So I told him we could do Mother's Day brunch together. I have grandma's special eggs benedict pans so eggs benedict is what we made. I separated the egg yolks for Jake. But he did all the stirring of the hollandaise. He would let me know when all the butter had melted and the let me know when to put in the next teaspoon. His whisking arm got pretty tired, but he didn't stop. And then he helped taste and season it at the end. His hollandaise turned out really great. I overcooked the poached egg a little. Whoops. Too much going on. But still it tasted really good. Tommy helped with the toast and the plating as it can be a lot to plate all the layers. They were pretty proud of their finished product and it was tasty.

Tommy's Third Game

Tommy had his third game today. We were surprised they even got it in between the rain. Tommy started the game off with a great play in the field. He caught a line drive for an out while playing shortstop. He was so pumped after he caught it. It was too funny. He is so into baseball. He also played first base and pitched. He is still working on his pitching. The impressive part is that after he had a rough inning. I went to go talk to him to tell him to keep his chin up and keep trying. He told me, "I'm good mom". And next inning he was telling his coach he wanted to pitch another inning and even improved. You go Tommy.

Tommy's Second Game

Tommy had his second game today. It managed not to rain. He pitched again today. Although I don't really know where he came up with his interesting form he was doing today. He didn't learn that at his pitching clinic. There was a lot of walking by both teams today. Tommy walked three times. Got one hit and struck out once. It was hilarious to watch him though. He was so engaged the whole game regardless. His mannerisms today showed just how pumped he is about baseball.

Tommy had a pitching clinic today. He was very excited about it. It made for a long day of baseball but I am glad he got to do it.

Jake's Second Game

Jake had his second game. Our coaches were not able to make it so I was helping coach. So I didn't get many pictures. Jake had a good time today. He even made a Golden Gumball poster for the dugout because his team is the Golden Gumballs.
