11 Months Old

Tom is 11 Months Old! He is really starting to become a little person it is amazing.

This month Tom watched his first Super Bowl and he also took another Trip to Utah to see family.

Tom now can now take about 20 steps by himself. Although he still prefers you to hold his hands when he walks. He has a little walker that he can push and walk behind. He can do that all by himself, but does have a little trouble steering. He will usually walk along the walls or the furniture, but occasionally I will just see him standing out there unsupported. He crawls very fast now. And he can crawl up stairs, although when Eric lets him do it I get very nervous even though it is only 3 steps.

Now that he is mobile and can make more choices in his day it is interesting to see what he does. He likes things with wheels a lot. And of course he loves all his toys that have buttons, make noise and flash lights. He will move from area to area around his play area checking out all his favorite toys.

He is also starting to communicate with us a bit. He finally figured out how to wave hi, which he loves to do all the time now.

He has been signing "all done" at meal times for a while now. And he has understood "bath time" for quite a while, but he now can do the sign for it.

He know what I mean when I say "kitty" and "dog" and will look around for them (or chase them).

Those things were not too surprising because we use them most every day. But I was really shocked when I found out that he knew what "elephant" was. Tom used to have a mobile hanging above his changing table (before he started ripping it down). On the mobile was an elephant, lion, monkey and alligator. So for a long time I would point at them, say the name, and give the sign. And then for Christmas Tom got an elephant rocking horse the makes noise. He loves it. When we would play I would say the name and do the sign. Then one day he was sitting in the middle of his play area playing. I looked at him and did the sign for "elephant". He turned and looked at the elephant. I said "go get your elephant" and he crawled right over there.

We also do shadow puppets monsters that growl on his wall every night before he goes to bed. He even tries to wave his hand and make one too and does a little growl. He loves doing it. One night I forgot to do the shadow puppet monster and Tom gave me a growl and I realized he was telling me I forgot to do it.

Tom has been eating pretty much the same things. He has gotten to try out shredded cheese. Of course he loves that. He almost has his 5th and 6th teeth in now. We did have to take a break from making him baby food for a while. I had used my Baby Bullet so much that it started smoking. So we had to do some baby food jars while I found a new blender I liked. He likes the jarred baby food too. But now that we have a new blender he will be back on homemade baby food. Too bad it didn't last a little longer because he is almost done with blended baby food. Oh well, I guess we will just have to make margaritas.

Utah Trip

Eric had the week off work so we made a last minute trip to Utah. It was a long drive and we didn't get to stay very long, but it was very nice to visit Eric's family. And of course everyone was glad to get some more time with Tom.

Super Bowl

We went to Bob & Nicole's new house for the Super Bowl this year. They have lots of open floor space so Tom had lots of fun crawling around and playing with toys. The game was an interesting one. I was not really expecting two half times. But I guess it gave them opportunity to get more money out of commercials.
