Tommy had an away meeting for McMurray wrestling. Boy was he excited. Not only did he get to skip the last 2 classes of the day, but also got to ride the bus on his own. And he got to take some money to get food afterwards. Of course he spent it all on junk instead of dinner. Eric did make it to the meet on his way home from work to see how he did. He got pinned his first match. His second match he wrestled really hard and scored some points but lost on points.

Making Bird Houses
We had a little extra time today so we took some of our extra wood pieces that that boys had been taking nails out of and stacking and cut them into pieces that could make more bird houses. The boys helped find the pieces and mark them and Eric made the cuts. And they are now sitting in a place to dry out until we have time to do the next step.

Rockbusters at State
After two days at the Tacoma Dome watching Lena wrestle, we are back again today for the boys turn. We caught the 5:35 AM ferry to make sure we got into the stadium on time. Little bit on the tired side. By this time I had totally lost my voice. But the boys are excited, and a little nervous. They both wrestled really great.
Jake pinned his first opponent in the first round. Then his second match he got pinned. He third opponent he pinned after a few seconds. And then he got pinned in his fourth match. He was bummed he didn't make it farther but he finished in the top half of the 32 man bracket.
Tommy came back for another last minute third round win in his first match and won by one. His second match he wrestled against someone who he had beat at the previous tournament and won on points. With two wins this put him into the quarter finals. His third match was against a nationally ranked kid. He lost and that kid went on to win the tournament. Tommy only needed to win his fourth match to get a medal. He lost on points and was out of the tournament. But he was in the 9-12 place range out of a 32 man bracket. He was very proud of himself.
For our first time at the state tournament they did so great and I think it will be a lot less intimidating the next time we go. Now to go home and rest after a long weekend.

Mat Classic XXXV
It was an exciting Mat Classic this year. Lena had a first round bye and then won her match on Friday. She was in the quarter final Saturday morning. She wrestled a tough match and last. She then lost her consultation match. That put her into the 5th or 6th place match which she won. So proud of her. We also got to watch 3 Vashon boys, 2 of which placed. And the highlight of the tournament was that Hugh Wheeler won the 1A State Championship. So happy for him and the family. There was also an undefeated senior, Cody Miller. He never lost a high school match. After he won his third state championship, (missed one due to COVID) he left his shoes sitting there on the mat.
Dorky's
It was a busy weekend but we still found time to take the boys to Dorky's which is now kind of a state wrestling tournament tradition. We rode the rail down end of town and walked to the arcade. We had pizza and played some games before we headed back to see the finals.

Lena Regional Wrestling
We went to White River today to watch Lena at regionals. Tommy stayed home as he was feeling tired and under the weather. Jake, Eric and I went for the day to watch Lena take first at regionals. She had 3 matches and 3 pins. It took several hours but it only took her 2 minutes and 10 seconds of wrestling to win it all. She now qualified for state and in a great seat with a bye.

Installing the Septic
The work on the septic began in September. They had to dig really deep to get the tanks into the ground. This gave us a big pile of dirt and really interesting rocks in the back yard that hung out for several months. We do live next to a quarry on our glacier fed island. They now have the tanks in and backfilled. The piping is hooked up and the wiring is done.

Third McMurray Home Meet
Tommy had his third and last home wrestling meet. He had win today. Oh man is he really full of himself. It is great to see him having fun. He might need that with a side of humility.

Gutters and Drying Out the Crawl Space
We spent November and December painting so we could get the gutters on as soon as possible. We knew there was water underneath the house at times and we wanted to work on getting rid of it. Once the plumbing inspector complained about the water it because even more urgent. They got installed on January 16. So at that time one of us needed to get underneath the house and start getting all the water out. Lucky me. So I got under there and started pumping it out. After I pumped as much as I could I needed to use the shop vac to get the shallower water and then I would pump it out of the shop vac. Unfortunately, after 30 to 40 hours under the house, more water just kept coming in that I could not keep up with. So Eric purchased vents covers to put over the vents and then we had our dirt contractors come back and adjusted the grade so it sloped away from the house more. And now it is dry under there. Thank goodness. I have no desire to crawl around under there any more.

Wrestling Tournament in Bremerton
We went to another wrestling tournament in Bremerton. It was a small group today with just the Bingham's and the Blomgren's. Jake had a tough day meeting two really tough competitors. Tommy had a super surprise day. He had two come from behind winds with a pin in the third period. I was so in shock. There were some spectators in absolute shock when they saw Tommy win his first match. He also faced two other really good competitors that he lost to, but he ended up with 4th place in a tough tournament. He was super proud of himself.
