Day 49
The boys had a better day today. I was exhausted because we ran out of coffee. Eric went to Costco, so I was on my own with the boys. Which was also exhausting. But they did their work without too much complaint. Jake read the word "Scientist" today. And Tom got to level 13 in his reading program. So we celebrated by watching Sonic the Hedgehog. I think Tommy thinks he is Sonic the Hedgehog.
Eric looked for a freezer in town. Sold out till September at Lowes. Depot had none in stores. It says they can be ordered online by May 30. We'll see if it actually shows up. They did announce that the found a drug that appears to be speeding up recovery to COVID-19. More testing needs to be done. And it does not prevent or totally cure, but at least it is a start. They also said that they think a company has a vaccine they think will work. More testing needs to be done, but they are going to start mass producing just in case it works. That way they will be ready to roll it out quickly.

Home School Day 48
Day 48
Once again a bad day for the Bingham boys. Tom was whining that he had to do his class while Jake was outside. And Jake was whining that he had to do class while Jake was outside. So I told them both at the end of the day that they were both going to stay inside while the other brother was doing their schooling. Which means less outside time for them. But I am not going to put up with their whining any more.
Today Governor Inslee gave more guidance on when our state will be reopened. It seems like there may still be quite a ways to go. It seems like they may be coming up with a plan for a modified MLB season though. If they are careful with testing and seclusion to a small group of people staying in a confined area and housing without people coming in and out of the area maybe it will work. I would love to see some baseball right now.

Day 47
Today was not a good day. Tom did his best to try and break my will and get out of work by whining. It lasted for an hour and a half. But like always it ended with him doing the work anyway. Whining or not. And he had to miss some of his recess. It didn't really put the family in a good mood for the day. Let's hope tomorrow goes better.
Today the president ordered meat packing plants have to stay open. This is after the president of Tyson Foods said the food chain is breaking down. Apparently farmers are destroying food because it can't be processed fast enough. No strict guidelines to keep workers safe. Just suggestions. Even though thousands of workers are getting sick.

It was a busy Monday. Assignments started flooding in at 8:30 as I was starting work. So I picked out a couple easy things they could figure out how to do today. Tommy got big kudos from his teacher on how well he was doing with his work. And Jake showed his class his 16 baby seals. Tommy did more running the bases so he could get timed today. Dad had to tell him to stop, that he had done enough running.
Great Britain's prime minister went back to work today after battling COVID-19. Today outdoor recreation was reopened in Washington with limitations of course. Ongoing construction projects have also been reopened. New projects have not been opened yet.

Home School Day 45
Day 45
Tommy's teachers sent him an email telling him how impressed they are with his work. He seems to be very proud of himself. He did 2 more reading tests this weekend and passed. We didn't have much homework left to do today. So we did some Magic School Bus science experiments. Part of it involved bubbles. So they convinced me to make a batch of bubble mix. They spent most of the day making bubbles. Tommy also tried out some of his new baseball stuff grandma and grandpa dropped off. The boys were able to wave at them and say hi. Tommy got bases, a tee, helmet, and an umpire clicker. He was in the yard keeping track of his score and making me time him as he ran around the bases. I spent a lot of time in the garden today. Planting veggie starts in bigger pots and doing weeding.

We listened to audible peter Rabbit
We make ig a whole week of school without too much incident. I save some of the easy stuff for the weekend. So I turn on their PE assignment this morning. It involved a contest of tossing balls. And Jake had a massive meltdown because he didn't get his first shot in the box. Instead of trying again like Tom he just lost it. That is kind of how the day went. Lots of whining. The boys had to clean up their bedroom and playroom today as I discovered they were just shoving things under the bed an the desks. So there was s lot of complaining. But it needed to get done.
Looks like some people are out there trying to defend Trump's stupidity. Including Dr Burke from his task force. It is obvious on the news that you is deflect and twist words to get him off the hook rather than being honest with people.

Another busy day today. The boys are getting a lot of great feedback from their teachers on their progress. Tommy found another four leaf clover patch in our yard today. I couldn't believe it. He said he was going to look for another patch and I was about to tell him that it wasn't likely when he said he found one. And it was in a completely different part of the yard. Lucky boy.

Today was a bit of a melt down day. We got some more school work done today. Then Jake had a melt down when I asked him to clean the play room while I worked with Tom on his lesson. So there was a 2 hour whining and screaming fit. Needless to say it also made Tom's lesson not go well. On a lighter note, I was walking across the yard today. Out of the corner of my eye I could have sworn I saw a four leaf clover. I stopped and turned around. Sure enough I found one. Then 3 more. And then Tom found another 4. At that point I told Tom that 8 was enough and we should leave some to keep growing.
It must have been good luck. Eric's extra unemployment money arrived. They are giving people a higher percentage of payment for unemployment right now, but it took this long to finally show up. But we'll take it and pay off more bills.
After many meat packing plants having outbreaks of COVID-19, now a plant near the Tri-Cities has an outbreak of 100 employees. This as Spokane County is asking to open because they say the east side of Washington doesn't have any problems. Huh....... Talks of trying to open Vegas as if people are going to have money to fly to Vegas and spend money at a casino right now. Or that they would even want to risk it. And on top of it all Trump asks if people should be injecting disinfectants into their body while at the podium. I don't even know what to say to that................

Home School Day 41
Day 41
Wednesday is our busiest day of the week. But we survived. The boys were super excited because grandma dropped them off some Pokemon cards. They got to waive at her as she dropped them off. It was really rainy today so no one went outside. Except the boys did their weekly wave at the garbage truck and got a honk honk back.
Eric and I used our stimulus check to pay off some bills today. Talk about exciting. It is looking like Washington state is really starting to level off. Only 10 deaths today. And now the curve is only doubling with new cases every 2 months. Which looks like one of the best curves in the country. It makes me glad that our stay-at-home orders are doing good. We are still not seeing the curve go down yet though. However one chart that was put out today said that Washington may be near bottom of the curve around May 25. That is about 1 more month. Stay strong people. Can't say the rest of the country looks this good yet. Of course we were one of the first to get infected and one of the first to close down. But I think our citizens are also doing some of the best at staying at home. I hope the rest of the country catches on soon because it will just keep spreading back to us if they don't figure it out.

Tom had a pretty good day with their schooling today. We completed 4 assignments today. They also had some fun outside. They decided that they would dig a big hole in their play area today. Never thought they would think digging a hole would be fun. But they thought it was the best. Then they convinced dad to make a fire in it.
Eric picked us up some more veggie starts. We now have some broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and kale to get planted. We moved the starts into the house inside the front window because it is supposed to storm out this week. Our peas we started are looking great out in the garden. Here's hoping the deer stay out of there this year.

Jake got to have another live class again today. He was very excited. He even got a new classmate today. The both completed one of their lessons today and a bunch more flowed in. I really wish I could get these on Friday instead of an explosion of assignments Monday morning. It would be so much better to get to plan out my week in advance.
Today Georgia decided it would open back up restaurants, hair dressers and small shops. Florida reopened some of it's beaches. After a weekend of more protests of people wanting to reopen the country, let's cue the uptick in cases. It has been passing around facebook that the Vashon natural path doctor sent two COVID-19 to the ER yesterday. And also recommend that two more stay home and get tested. Oh how I wish that more testing was out there so people could grasp the true nature of what is going on here.

Day 38
The boys had finished most of their work for the week so we took the day pretty easy. Tom did his reading and aced it. We did their music assignment. Though I don't really know how to make the sounds she was asking for so I just sent what noises they made. They really just wanted to rock out anyway. Then we spent some time outside making a potato box for the garden. Wandered around the property. Tom hit some balls. Ordered out food from May's Kitchen. And we finished the day by watching School of Rock.
They opened up unemployment to all self-employed people and independent contractors. So naturally the website was crashing all day. Eric could not get on there to refile. The boys wrapped up most of their homework today. They played a fun math game. Tommy finished correcting his paper for this week. And we did Jake's science project. Tommy has been hoarding the pencil sharpener. When you send your kid to sharpen his pencil. It is taking forever. And it comes back like this.

Day 36
Tommy did really great with his reading lesson today. This is a class that he has really struggled with at school with staying on task and wanting to be involved in participating. He did great. I was really surprised. Jake on the other hand through a fit about coloring a design on a calendar. Can you say, "Someone is starved for attention."
Another day and our company did not get a small business or PPP loan. Now they are saying that the feds ran out of money within a week. Great. They say they may vote more money in on Tuesday. Let's hope so. Protests have been popping up in states with people saying they did not agree with the stay at home order. So the were walking arm in arm with no masks down the street that will go well. Yesterday the feds said that the had a plan to slowly and smartly reopen the country when a set of criteria can be met. They got up at the podium and went over their somewhat reasonable plan and said the governors would decide when their state was ready. Then today Trump was tweeting up a storm telling people they should get out there and protest and tell governors to open up their states. So much for reasonable measures. Who else is sick of the crazy town the Trump stirs up.

Today was a really nice day. About 70 degrees out. Eric set up the pool and got out the sprinkler and all the water toys. The boys had a great time. It was a bit of a challenge to get the boys to do their school work today because the sun was calling them. But we still got it done. Tom wrote 4 pages for his paper on how life has changed with corona virus. We still have to go back and proof it, but he got the big part done.
Today they announced that they ran out of money for the small business loans. And my company did not get one yet. Not sure what that means for me. The federal government released plans to reopen the country, but the guidelines that need to be hit don't really seem within reach any time soon. Guess I am not going anywhere any time soon anyway with school being closed for the rest of the year.

Home School Day 34
Day 34
Well, we have fully delved into school assigned work at home. I keep trying to remind myself the most important things I can teach my kids to be successful in school and life. If I can teach them these things, all the academic stuff will follow. Of course, these are the toughest things in life to teach. And I don’t think we ever stop working to achieve them in life. This is not meant criticize other people on what they are doing in their homes. No two family’s situations are the same. Just like no two students or people are the same. Am I achieving all these everyday? NO! This is just what I keep trying to remind myself as I delve into this new normal.
What does success look like? It is not the same for everyone, so don’t compare yourself to others. Look at your own improvement on your own work. Giving your best effort is the thing you should be focusing on.
Never give up.
It is OK to say, “I’M FRUSTRATED!”
If you are frustrated, step away, take some breaths, and try again.
Mental and physical breaks are important.
Admit your mistakes. No one is perfect.
Don’t give up if a plan doesn’t work. Learn from your mistakes. Adjust your plan. Try again.
Patience, Patience, Patience.
If a task seems overwhelming or you are not in the right mind set that day, just start with a portion of the task that seems achievable. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part.
You want to really help someone, teach them how they can help themselves. Don’t just do it for them.
Sometimes you need to be firm and don’t give in. And sometimes you need to be flexible and go with the flow. If you want good relationships with people, it is important to exercise both these options at the right times.
Celebrate achievements.
Be respectful of other people. Listening and eye contact are an important part of that.
Put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Think about what they may be feeling.
Be honest. Lying will always come back to bite you and you will regret it.
One of the best ways to be a leader is to lead by example.
All that being said. Wednesday's are the longest days for us schedule wise. And it showed a bit including on the patience of the adults. On a good note. Tommy passed 2 levels on his typing test class and was very proud of himself. He also had his first virtual classroom. Like Jake's they pretty much just shared one thing they have been doing. Although I must say the kindergartens were better at being quiet and muting themselves than the second graders. Then we began working on some assignments. Tommy did better on those today. Jake had a rougher day today, but he work turned out fine. Everyone is still feeling out the new schedule. I knew there would be some complaining after there was lots of extra free time last week for spring break. But we are plugging away on our assignments. It is nothing we can't achieve if we put the effort in and stick to the plan.
We got our $3400 stimulus payment through direct deposit today. Time to pay down some debt. San Antonio , TX in receiving 10,000 people per day at one food bank.

Sometimes you need to be firm and don’t give in. And sometimes you need to be flexible and go with the flow. If you want good relationships with people, it is important to exercise both these options at the right times.
Celebrate achievements.
Be respectful of other people. Listening and eye contact are an important part of that.
Put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Think about what they may be feeling.
Be honest. Lying will always come back to bite you and you will regret it.
One of the best ways to be a leader is to lead by example.
All that being said. Wednesday's are the longest days for us schedule wise. And it showed a bit including on the patience of the adults. On a good note. Tommy passed 2 levels on his typing test class and was very proud of himself. He also had his first virtual classroom. Like Jake's they pretty much just shared one thing they have been doing. Although I must say the kindergartens were better at being quiet and muting themselves than the second graders. Then we began working on some assignments. Tommy did better on those today. Jake had a rougher day today, but he work turned out fine. Everyone is still feeling out the new schedule. I knew there would be some complaining after there was lots of extra free time last week for spring break. But we are plugging away on our assignments. It is nothing we can't achieve if we put the effort in and stick to the plan.
We got our $3400 stimulus payment through direct deposit today. Time to pay down some debt. San Antonio , TX in receiving 10,000 people per day at one food bank.

Home School Day 33
Day 33
First day with our new schedule. It went pretty well. Still a little arguing about completing assignments from Tommy. Jake wanted to do more than he was given. Not surprising as he does not have that many assignments for Kindergarten. A surprise also arrived in the mail that I ordered. A tire swing type thing. I figured we needed some recess upgrades since we are in for the long haul. I was debating about this. Then I saw that backyard stuff was starting to sell out online. I figured I better just do it now before I regret it. The boys loved it. Eric hung it from the swing set for now, but I was envisioning it hanging in a tree where it can swing around some more.
Vashon has its 4th COVID-19 case. Expecting to hear about more now that they opened a testing center on Vashon. Trump cut off all funding for the WHO and is blaming them for all his problems. Meanwhile the Governors are have decided to form regional groups to tackle this virus and work together as there is a lack of a federal response and no plan on how to reopen the country once this passes. Washington, Oregon and California are coordinating efforts. When asked today, Trump said it was not his job to test people. That was the job of the states.
