I picked some more blueberries and I made a fruit smoothy. There was a fair amount left over so I poured some into our Popsicle molds. Tom enjoyed himself and Daddy and Jake had fun watching Tom make a mess.

Jake Pushing Tom
Jake has been walking more and more and Tom is really enjoying that he can do more things now. Today I found Tom ridding the pirate ship that we bought with Jake's birthday gift cards. Then Jake started pushing him from behind. They both looked so cute having fun together.
Jet Ski
Cara invited us down to her parents lake house for the day. Tom was a little scared and a little excited about the lake. He wouldn't go wading in the lake. He did go in a little on a float while I was holding him but wanted to come back out after not that long. Jake went on the float and loved it. But Tom was brave enough to ride on the jet ski, or the "boat" as he called it. He did really well and didn't seem scared at all. We do really need to get Tom into swim lessons so he is not so afraid of water.

New Coloring Book
Cousin Lena gave Tom a new coloring book. He loves it so much. It has a paint brush that you put water in. Then you paint the brush on the page and the picture appears. And when it dries it disappears again. Since the picture is already there you are basically just darkening it with the water Tom really feels like he is making something. He has been working on drawing a little more now that he is in preschool. He can make a circle, but he really feels like he is accomplishing something with this coloring book. It is really cute. Father's Day
It was a kind of quiet Father's Day. We went over to my parent's house and had a little BBQ. Jake had a fun time checking out the tractor. Tom was running all over the place playing with Ruby and Lena. And Jake learned a new word from his cousin Jett. "Uh Oh". Grandpa made us some ribs. And there was even a surprise cake for me even though it was a couple days early.

Catching Another One
Eric sacrificed part of his Father's Day weekend so I could have a night away to go to the Mariner's game. I took my friend Cara with me. We had a blast. Her brother Neal also met up with us about half way through the game. We had been watching ball fly around us all game so I had my glove close by. A ball was hit so high it went above the lights and I lost it in the night sky. I didn't have the glove on because I didn't think it was coming our way. Then Cara yelled that the ball was coming. So I hurried and got the glove on and I just saw it as it was coming down into the lights. I reached up and grabbed it. Baseballs are so light compared to softballs that I didn't even know I caught it till I looked in the glove. Thanks for the help Cara. I got a bunch of high fives from people and a lot of people even as I was walking out of the stadium told me nice catch. I even got an offer from an old grandpa to play on his 50 and over softball team :) It was a great night.
Les Grove Water Park
Tom and Jake got invited to our neighbor's birthday party at Les Grove Water Park in Auburn. We had never been down there before. It was a pretty cool park. And the weather was great for a water park. Tom was a little timid about the water. So of the sprays could really soak you. But he found ones that shoot out of the ground that he like to step on to stop the water and then move his foot and run. Jake enjoyed getting sprinkled too.
Blueberry Pancakes
Our blueberries have been great this year. And things seem to be early so the birds haven't figured out that the blueberries or the cherries are there yet so unlike most years we haven't had a lot of competition. Pretty much every evening we treat ourselves to blueberries, cherries, raspberries and a strawberry if we can find one. So I picked a bunch and made blueberry pancakes. I think the boys enjoyed them.

Walking
Jake has been working on walking for quite a while now. I don't think he was super motivated since he crawls so fast. He had been taking a few little steps while surfing between furniture and such. And we would catch him free standing while not holding on to anything. But usually he would just drop to the floor after a step or two. Today he took a full 10 steps in a row.

1 Year Check Up
Jacob had his 1 year check-up. 4 shots and a finger prick so he wasn't exactly happy. Discovered he is also working on his molars right now. They are peeking through. Jake is a lean mean machine. He is almost as long as Tom was but 39th percentile. He eats like a little monster, but I guess he spends so much time running after time that he is really trim.

1 Year Old
Our big boy Jake is 1 year old today! He already had his first cake yesterday. But we let him stick his fingers in the piece we have left and have a little taste today for his birthday.
He has had so much exciting fun this month. He had his first Mother's Day with a trip to the zoo. He got his first hair cut. He went to his first fishing derby. And he had his 1st Birthday party yesterday.
He is growing fast and make little developments all the time. He is really picking up on eating solid foods now. And he can chow down quite a bit. It is pretty funny how he gets upset when he runs out of the thing he really wants because he will let you hear about it. He really seems to want to eat meat the most right now. My little meat eater. He also figured out how to take the little baby food pouch and squeeze it into his mouth on his own. So no more spoon feeding. I sure won't miss that him grabbing the spoon and flinging it back in my face.
Jake has also been figuring out more gestures. He has figured out how to make noises with his tongue, how to blow, and he even tries to do things with his eyes like squinting at me and opening them wide and then closing them like I do to him sometimes. He also figured out a high 5 which he thinks is really funny. And he shakes his head yes or no but I don't think he really knows which is which. He does know how to say yes now. But I don't think he gets it really. Other than that he is still just pointing at things and saying "this" and "that". And he has also figured out how to growl too. He has certainly gotten louder lately. I think he likes to see how
No walking yet, but he is getting a little more brave. He will free stand for a little bit. He will surf all around the room on edge of the furniture and he has gotten confident enough to let go of one thing and grab another nearby piece of furnature without sitting down. Still not taking too many steps on his own. Only about 2 steps and then he drops down. He has gotten pretty good at the push toys though. He even tries to turn them a little. But he usually get stuck on something and then complains. Tom has been trying to help him out and steer him in the right direction. He things it is fun to push the "vacuums" around and race. It makes me nervous to watch though as Tom doesn't really understand gentle when helping him and races by him at top speed. But Tom is at least trying to be nice and play with him so I let him do it. It is pretty cute actually. He yells "Come on Jackey!"
We have had more brother issues. I think most of it is jealousy from all the talk of a birthday party for Jake. But Tom had a great time at the party and they are sharing the toys together somewhat nicely. So hopefully he will get over the jealousy. Tom is excited that Jake can do more thing.s But he still gets frustrated that he doesn't understand words yet. I have to keep telling him that he only knows a couple words and doesn't understand what you are saying.
We have had such a busy and eventful month and much of it outside. I am looking forward to the day where he stops putting things in his mouth and can really enjoy the fun of being outside.

1st Birthday Party
Jake had his first birthday party today. We have been working on the planning of this for a while. I would say mostly Eric because you know how he has to get the yard perfect before anything like this. I helped him the best I could, which mostly meant watching the kids. And I took care of the fun for the kids.
We decided we would do some stuff for the bigger kids since Tom didn't get a birthday with any kids this year. Eric wanted to get a bounce house and Tom was super excited about that. He talked about the bounce house and chocolate cake for weeks. And I was looking at party decorations and decided it would be easiest to do a Jake and the Neverland Pirates party. So a pirate party it was.
I had my mom keep an eye out for things from Granny's. She borrowed a cool little pirate ship for us. And she got a bunch of dress up stuff too. We went to the party store and got some decorations. Let me tell you, it wasn't easy with how excited Tom was. He wanted to touch every little thing in the store. But we made it out of there alive. And I decided it would be fun to do a treasure hunt. So I drew a map of our yard, scanned it and photoshoped it onto a treasure map and then printed out a bunch of them to put throughout the yard to give clues.
The days leading up to the party we realized that it was going to be really hot so we decided that we should make this more of an outside party with some sort of water stuff to cool the kids down. We bought some squirt guns and really cool water ballons that inflate 25 all at once and tie themselves. But we really lucked out when the bounce house delivery guy showed up and he had our regular bounce house in his truck and also a water one. So Eric gave the guy a little extra money and we got the bounce house with the water slide.
Tom was so excited. Some how we managed to get both Tom and Jake to take a nap before people showed up. And we were able to get our last minute cleaning a decorating done. And then people started showing up. And the kids were so excited about the water slide. It was hard to even convince them to come out when it was time to do the treasure hunt. But when they did they were in such anticipation to find the buried treasure that it was precious to watch. We had pirate hats for everyone to put on for their hunt and then away we went. Cousin Lena especially was so excited. I think she just about made it there first to every clue. I am not sure Tom really knew what was going on, and Jake was just along for the ride. But the kids all loved it. And at the end there was a treasure check with all their goodie bags in them.
The kids had so much fun and Jake devoured his chocolate cake. I don't know how many more parties like this we can do since it is so much work, but I it is one we will remember for years to come. Thank you to everyone who helped us make the party so great. Happy Birthday Jake. And I am glad you had such a fun time too Tommy.
