Easter

Easter morning we did a hunt in our forest for the eggs that we colored. It was actually kind of difficult to find them since they were natural colors. But they did find them all. Then I made deviled eggs for dinner. We then went to my parents house. They boys did a hunt for their stuffed eggs and we had dinner with the family.

Coloring Eggs

This is probably our last year coloring eggs as well. I asked the boys if the wanted to color the eggs and they were not super interested. So I figured I would try doing it with natural colors to make it a little more interesting for them. So I used beets, blueberries, onions and greens to color some eggs. They somewhat thought it was interesting. They turned out interesting. I have never done it before.

Egg Hunt at the Eagles

The boys went to the egg hunt at the eagles. I think this was likely their last egg hunt. But they had fun. How could they not when they get money and candy.

We have Walls

The insulation and drywall is now done. You can somewhat see what it will look like inside. They have to do a few more steps and then we will be painting again. At least it won't be trying to paint in the freezing and rain this time.

Mariners Opening Day

Added a Little in the Walls

Our PM let us know that while our walls were still open we could we could add a few things in the walls. He said we could add some extra bracing in places where we would like to hang TV's and heavy things. Eric really went for it and added a fair amount. We did have a fair amount of extra wood. He also made a little chart of all the framing and where he put his extra bracing so he knows where to hang things. We also added a few personal messages on the framing. Just to claim it as our own. And it was a cool thought to wonder if anyone would ever open it up and look at it. Our PM also told us we could add some insulation in the interior walls in places where it was not standard to add insulation. We weren't able to every wall, but we did get the ones bordering our master bedroom done. Now it is time to seal it up.

Tommy Making Breakfast Hash

Mr. Chef Tommy is at it again. They made breakfast hash at school so he made it for us tonight as breakfast for dinner. He did a great job. He did all his own chopping except a little help on the onion. He cooked the potato, sausage, onion and mushrooms in one pan. They did scramble in it a school. To be an over achiever he wanted to show us both a fried and a poached egg for each one of us and he got them all to a perfect runny. It was a little crazy reminding him to check his eggs because he had so many going. But they all came out awesome. I did make the toast for him so that he didn't have to worry about that.

Tommy's 12th Birthday

Tommy turns 12 today. What did he want for his birthday? Baseball stuff. He is getting taller and now steals my shoes. He loves sports and riding his bike. We were hoping our house would be finished by now so he could have a birthday party at our house but we are not there yet. So for this year we just had a little BBQ at grandma and grandpa's house on Sunday with a little bit of whiffle ball.

Tommy Learning to Cook

Tommy has done a little bit of cooking and baking at home. He has never done a whole meal on his own. He is in Food 101 as his elective this semester at McMurray Middle School. He is really liking it. He has learned about cooking safety with using knives and heat and food safety. He even learned how to load a dishwasher. That will come in handy soon. Currently they are working on cooking breakfast. He has made pancakes, blueberry muffins, cooking eggs 3 ways, and french toast with goup sauce. He is working on hash browns next. He wanted to make us some food at home so he did eggs and bacon, and then he made french toast and his goup sauce. By the second day cooking breakfast he even go his fried eggs to an over easy.

Lena's First Track Meet

Insulation

We got permission to move to insulation, now that the rough plumbing is approved and the rough electrical was already previously done. It took a long time, but we are now moving forward. Here are the before and after pictures of the walls before and after the insulation.

Misadventures

It was a really nice weekend for March. It was near 70 degrees. So we attempted to take out the kayaks. We didn't make it too far when Jake's boat started taking on water. Apparently hit had a big hole in the bottom. Fortunately we always stay near the shore. I let him row my boat back and lucky me I got to drag his boat back in the mud. We pulled the kayaks in and let them play on the beach for a while instead. Kind of a bummer but we knew we would have to get a bigger kayak for Tommy soon anyway.

Tommy Baseball at Mercer Island

Tommy had another game this weekend. They did pretty well and got a win. Tommy did not get on base, but the umpire calls were a bit rough on the high strikes.

Lots of Rocks

Our property has tons of rocks. We do live down the street from a quarry. Any time dirt was disturbed in any way more rocks would appear. So one of the jobs the boys have been doing is picking up rocks and putting them in a rock pile. At times they had fun harvesting rocks and finding some cool ones. Other times it was like pulling teeth to get them to fill up a bucket of rocks. We now have a pretty huge pile. We also had a bunch of rock we brought from our old house that have been stored for 8 years. They now how bushes growing up over them so we will need to figure out where they are and dig them out. But we will have a lot of rocks to do landscaping with.
