Lena's Track Meet

We had a little bit of time in our schedule, so we were able to catch the start of Lena's track meet and final senior day. We were only able to stay long enough to see her do the shot put. There may have been a slight mishap on her second throw. But that guy should have been paying attention. And it looks like she got a personal best. We couldn't stay long because we had to get to a baseball game, but I am glad we saw a little bit.

Tommy's Birthday Party

Tommy celebrated his 14th birthday with a bunch of friends at the house. They had a great time doing every screen possibly and eating pizza. Not sure how much they actually slept. But they all managed to wake up the next day.

Mariners Opening Day

I took both Tommy and Jake to opening day this year. There is always lots of excitement with opening day. We had a flyover, met all the new players for the season. And saw all the wild batting averages that come with an opening day event. Always the day to quiz your kids on how to calculate a batting average as you can see it easily in real time.

Tommy's Birthday

Tommy turned 14 today. He is your typical 8th grader. Growing fast and demanding independence in every way that I am whiling to give it to him. That includes baggy jeans that he likes to sag half way down his butt. It means disagreeing with me to just be able to say he can have his own opinion. You know, typical teenage stuff. In true teenager fashion, I took him to the store to pick out what he wanted for his birthday, as whatever I picked out would be wrong. He is growing up fast and letting us know it. He is almost a high schooler. Hard for me to even comprehend that we are at that point. He spent the rest of the day out on the ball field. I am sure that is where he would prefer to be on his birthday.

Spring Snow

Heavy spring snow came in. We got about 4 inches of snow. And it was heavy snow. So you could hear branches breaking in the forest everywhere. I had to keep shaking all of my bushes to get the snow off as they are bending so low. They boys had a fun time playing around in it though. It stuck around long enough for them to do all the sledding, snow boarding, snow ball fighting and snow man making.

Wrestling Banquet

The kids seemed to have a good time at the wrestling banquet. The girls requested that everyone dress up. So Lena was rocking her prom dress with her winners belt. I must say it was a good luck. It was a nice end to a great season.

Mat Classic XXXVII

We were feeling pretty confident that Lena could make it back to back state championships. She was coming off 2 big wins against a nationally ranked wrestler, and two large tournament wins. But wins aren't just given out. They have to be earned. I must say, it did make me a bit more nervous when the finals started out with 2 major upsets on the 2A mat. Two of the three time state champs lost. So I was feeling a bit anxious during the long wait for her match. But Lena got the job done. She has worked so hard she makes it look easy. Here is all the Mat Classic action. No better way to end your career than on top of the podium.

Rocky 4 Style Training

Tommy asked me yesterday if I could buy him some weights or if he could go to a gym to go weight lifting. I told him we don't have money for that. We do weight training Rocky 4 style at our house. "Don't forget Tommy, you asked to do weight lifting." Grumble, grumble, grumble. You know, typical Bingham vacation.

Rockbusters League Tournament

Rockbusters had their end of the season league tournament. Jake got a pin, a tech pin, and a win by 2 points. He had a great day and took home the gold medal today.

Wrestling Districts

Today was wrestling districts. Top three boys go to state. Top two girls go to state. Tommy had a tough draw for his first match with the top guy in the league. He put up a good fight but got tech pinned. He then faced his teammate Cameron and did pin him. The unfortunate thing is that there was a major upset on the other side of the bracket. The freshman that Tommy had pinned, ended up pinning a senior. So instead of meeting the freshman in the looser bracket, he met the senior and was pinned to take fourth place. He is an alternate, but we were hoping he would have a chance to beat that freshman again. Oh well. There will be other years. He had a good season. He ended the season with 6 varsity wins, 6 forfeits, 10 losses and 4 pins. He also had 4 JV wins and 3 JV pins. Not bad for scrawny little 8th grader.
