Happy New Years

We didn't really have big plans for New Years. Eric was working in Mount Vernon. We didn't think he would be home until late. Jake asked Lucas to come over and hang out. So him and Jake started playing with all of his new presents and stuff. Lucian walked over and asked Tommy if he could come hang out at his house. And then Eric called and said his boss let him out early. So he was able to get home early enough to start a fire out in the back yard for us to ring in the new year. The boys were watching some myth busters, making smores, playing laser tag and having a great time.

Breakfast with Dad

One of those days that mom needs to sleep in and dad takes the boys out for breakfast.

Tommy Flying the Drone

Tommy asked for a drone for Christmas. He was very excited about it. But it has been raining pretty heavily for days at this point. Today he finally had a break in the weather to try it out. It has a fair number of buttons so he had to read the instructions fairly carefully so he wouldn't crash it.

Christmas

I put a ring camera on the tree to see how early someone decided to go out there. Tommy was up and at the tree at 3 AM. and would come back every 30 minutes until someone else woke up. Jake didn't get up until about 8 AM. At that time they opened their stockings and looked at their Santa presents. Tommy got his drone and Jake got his bucket of cheese. He will be eating cheese for a while. Then we got our cinnamon rolls into the over and had breakfast. The cinnamon rolls were pretty good. After breakfast we let the boys open all their presents. They already saw the new (used) kayaks out the window. And they already knew they were getting a PS4 as Tommy saw me buying it in Granny's. I hid their last present for the end though. The boys had no idea that they were getting a switch. They were pretty excited about that. After we finished opening presents we went over to my parents house for dinner and a mellow Christmas. We did play apples to apples a few times. Which somehow Tommy won both rounds. He said half the time he didn't even know what was on his card, he was just sticking it out there. The last card he won on was in the category of glamorous. He put down the card Oprah. When it was picked we asked him if he even knew who Oprah was. He said no, he thought it said orphan. Very glamorous.

Christmas Eve

We had a pretty chill Christmas Eve. I had already gotten the presents all wrapped when the boys were both at birthday parties over the weekend. So it was mostly just a relaxing day. I did make some baguettes for snacking. And we headed to a party at a friends house for a while. And then we came home to watch movies and relax. Jake had asked if we could bake something for Christmas morning breakfast. I checked what we had and we had ingredients to make cinnamon rolls. I had never made them before. It wasn't too hard. It took a bit of waiting between steps, but we were just sitting around anyway. Around 9:30 I sent the boys to bed. I only had to work on the stockings and also figuring out how to make a bucket of cheese look good.

Comfy Kitties

These kitties look like they are pretty comfy.

Christmas Ornament

Merry Christmas! Turn up the volume to hear a Christmas song from the boys. I don't know how many more years they are going to let me do all the holiday traditions with them. Taking them to Santa was sort of a debate until they heard their was free hot chocolate. I got them to sing the song for our talking ornaments we give to the grandparents. They were asking why they had to do it still and I reminded them that their Grandpa can't see pictures of them. They said fine as long as it was a rock song. They didn't complain about making cookies. That they did at least half the work. They mixed all the doughs and did some help getting them on the sheet. I will keep trying to hold onto our traditions as long as they let me. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

Making Fudge

We went over to my parent's house today to make fudge. We also did a gift exchange with Lena as they will be at Susan's families house for Christmas.

First Wrestling Tournament

The boys had their first wrestling tournament today. They got to wrestle at the same place that Lena wrestled at yesterday. It wasn't their greatest performance. You can tell it is still early in the season and they are still working out their moves. It didn't help that Jake had a referee in training that was shorter than he was. He was pinned on obviously on one shoulder. But they did have a few moments of seeing some potential. Our day ended early and we headed to do some last minute Christmas shopping.

Birthday Saturday

Today Tommy went to Lucian's birthday party at a trampoline park and then went to a sushi place. He appeared to have a great time. At the same time Jake went to Lucas's birthday party at Lucas's house. Lucky me, I had a free afternoon to wrap presents while the boys were gone.

Holiday Concert

Jake had his holiday concert. It is always one of the highlights of the year. This will be our last one. I had to go and hear I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas one more time.

Making Cookies

We spent last weekend making cookies. The boys did a lot of work this year. They mixed all the doughs, pretty much on their own. Just occasionally asking for advice. Some of the doughs they helped put on the sheet and some I did. It was a lot of cookie making so they needed breaks. On Sunday we had the family over to make sugar cookies and hang out for a bit. We then handed out lots of cookies to people.

Decorating for Christmas

We began decorating for Christmas. Tommy, as always was pretty excited. It was interesting trying to figure out where to put everything in a new house. We had a fair number of options so we were trying to figure out what we liked best. We weren't sure how it would go with the kittens and Christmas decorations. They did a lot of sniffing around the tree, but did not attempt to climb it. However, they did chew one of the wires of the Christmas lights. Hopefully they don't hurt themselves. We do know that they like stealing the stuffies and Santa hats.

High School Wrestling Meet

The boys and I went to the high school wrestling meet tonight to cheer on the team. We weren't sure if Lena would have a match or not. She did end up having a match against someone slightly heavier than her. It was a good match though. And the boys got to be towel tappers.

Eric's Birthday

Happy birthday Eric. Family went to see Wicked on the Sunday before his birthday and had yummy food at Stack 351 Burger. And a little chocolate cake on his birthday. And he was spoiled yet again when he went up to Mount Vernon for work. He is staying at Heidi's guest house and she treated him again to a birthday dinner.

Second Wrestling Meet

The boys had their second wrestling meet. Tommy had two matches tonight and wrestled really tough. He lost his first match on points but did some good wrestling. Jake won all three of his matches. He almost got a pin on his last match. We were really hoping for one as we were trying to rush for a ferry. Unfortunately he took it to the third round and eventually tech pinned him. Then we ran out of there to try and make it to the ferry. We only had 8 minutes but by some miracle we made the ferry. I would call that a successful night.

Visiting Santa

The old holiday traditions are beginning to be a hard sell to my tweens. I don't know how many more times I will be able to convince them. I asked Jake if he wanted to see Santa and he went back and forth on it. He was sold when I said free hot chocolate bar.

Winterfest

It was a cold and blustery Winterfest this year. But the parade was super fun. And they were handing out free hot cocoa and cookies at the church. We then made a quick escape into the theatre to watch a free showing of the Grinch. My favorite is when the movie stalled and wouldn't play. So Jamie, one of Tommy's soccer teammates, got up on stage and started telling jokes.

First Wrestling Meet

The boys had their first wrestling meet today. Tommy had a tough night. He got pinned twice off a head and arm. He did wrestle against his long time opponent Giovanny. They have wrestled each other every year since they were 5. Tommy lost the match on points but battled hard. Jake only had two matches. He won his first match. On his second he went up against Cullum. They wrestled each other 7 times last year. Jake lost on points to him but did get some good moves in. He will keep trying to beat him.

Finding a Tree

I thought it was a bit early to find a tree, but Eric wanted to go get one. This was our first time getting an actual Christmas tree in I think 9 years. We had been cutting down firs on our property that were way too close to our septic mound. But those have all been cleaned up now. We found a perfectly sized tree to fit into our nook area. I rearranged the furniture in that area and it worked out great.

Golfing with Dad

This time Eric took both Tommy and Jake golfing. Jake had never gone before but had heard about driving the golf cart. Jake mostly did putting. Tommy looked to have a rough day on his swing.

Thanksgiving

The family requested that we host Thanksgiving at our house. So we figured out all the set-up for the table and the leaves and such. We had never eaten a meal at it. We were short a few chairs so we had them bring folding chairs. I prepped most of the food the day before so things would be less stressful and also so there would be less to clean up while people were there. Jake helped me out a little while in the kitchen. It was a nice mellow Thanksgiving, watching the parade and dog show while prepping food. We were able to fit everyone in with the boys eating at the bar. We have much to be thankful for.

Turkey Trot

This is our families last Turkey Trot. Jake was excited about it. He wore his dad's track jersey just like Tommy did. I saw him coming around the bend and he looked like he was working really hard. And he put a big burst on at the finish. After the race he didn't look so great though. He pushed himself pretty hard. He recovered though.

Tommy's Last Soccer Game and Party

Tommy had his last soccer game today. He was pretty bummed. He played goalie second half. And he let in one tough goal that he probably had no chance of getting. And then about a minute before the end of the game he let in a second goal that just tipped of the top of his hands. He was pretty upset about it. He really thought he should have had it even though it was still a tough shot. Him and his team really wanted this game. The team they were playing was undefeated. But it did end up in a tie. So they can't be too upset. Their team ended up 3rd in the league. That were pretty happy with that. They also had a part afterwards at Round One. That place was huge and slightly overwhelming. But the had a good time.

I have been so busy running back and forth between games this fall I have had a hard time even keeping track of how the games are going. But Tommy had a great season. He scored some goals this season, which he was excited about. And the team did pretty good. Here are all the pictures from the season.
