Seventh Wrestling Tournament

The boys wrestled in the Holiday Tournament. The tournament had a beginners bracket. The boys had a good day. Tommy won a match and Jake won two. Jake even got his first pin. And everyone got a medal so that was exciting for them.

Walk About

After all of the holiday excitement I need to get up and work out some of those Christmas cookies. And the boys needed to get some of their energy out. So we went on a walk about around Fisher Pond. Without Dad walking with us we booked it and made good time. Just in time before the rains started up again :)

Christmas

The boys were so excited about Christmas. It took probably 10 attempts at least to get Tom to go to sleep. He just couldn't wait. But he finally got to bed about 9:30 PM. So Santa had a little something extra in the eggnog. Fortunately the boys asked for kid canoes this year. No assembly required :) Just had to find a place to put them without having a Tim Allen Santa Clause reenactment.

When the boys woke up they were very excited. I was worried we would have some foot stomping from Jake again this year. After a little complaining about the color he was very happy. They also loved the stuff in their stockings. Wind up toys are always a big hit.

After some waiting for people to arrive, and lots of anticipation, they got to open their presents. And at the end I surprised them all with tickets to a monster truck rally. Tommy could barely contain himself.

We had a great Christmas. The boys were so full of energy, you would have thought we shoved a pound of sugar in the. But we didn't. And when we went home there was one more surprised. I did a lot of shopping a Granny's for Christmas. I found an awesome last minute gift for the boys. A wii for $5. We still had all our wii stuff, but our machine was broken. Before we left the house on Christmas Eve I set it up and tested out Mario Cart. It all worked! So when we got home on Christmas night it was ready to show them. They had done Mario Cart at the Long Beach with Wes' switch. So Tom was instantly thrilled. They have to do a bit of practicing, but they are loving it.

Christmas Eve Presents

The boys got a couple packages in the mail. So we let them open them on Christmas Eve. Both were pretty cool and the boys were so excited about them. They are so luck to have so many people who care about them.

Christmas Cookies

Keeping the cookie making tradition going. The boys were so excited. We mixed all the dough at our house yesterday. The boys took turns helping with all the measuring, pouring, cracking eggs and chopping nuts. Jake is a master egg cracker. No shells. Every time. Then today we went to Grandma's to bake the cookies. We did a lot less cookies since the amount of family we see at the holidays now has shrunk quite a bit. But the boys loved rolling out the dough and cutting it. And then just playing with the leftovers. And who doesn't love frosting and sprinkles. And we made our giant Santa cookie to leave for Santa.

Zoo Lights

Since we were already in town for wrestling today we decided today would be a good day to go to zoo lights. It was still early so we took the boys to see the new Grinch movie. I am not a big fan but the boys seemed to enjoy it. And the Ruston theater has comfy seats so I actually fell asleep probably 4 times. Then we got some dinner and headed to zoo lights. There were tons of people there. We had to park down at Owen's Beach and catch a shuttle up to the zoo. It took a lot longer to get into the zoo. But we did get to see the boat light parade going past the beach for a glancing moment. The boys enjoyed the zoo lights and then they were exhausted.

Sixth Wrestling Tournament

The boys had another wrestling tournament again today. It wasn't their best result. They both got pinned in every match. But they tried hard and did have fun. And we took them out to have some fun after the tournament.

Santa Letter

The boys wrote their Santa letter and gave it to Elfie Nick to give to Santa. I asked the boys what they wanted for Christmas. Tommy said the same thing as last year. I told him he needed to ask for something he didn't have already. Jake asked for a bookshelf. I thought, oh boy, here we go again. Santa will get him a bookshelf and then he will cry Christmas morning. So I told him not to ask for that because we didn't have space for one. Then I reminded that boys that they had been asking me to get the kids canoes like they ones they tried out this summer. So that is what they asked Santa for. I wrote the words on the chalk board and then Tom wrote it out on the paper. And Jake traced his name. Tom also made some sort of scary clown Santa to put on the back for him :)

Tablet Time

The boys got a little tablet time. We have found a few letter games to put on there and they actually enjoy it.

Hanging with Lena

It was our anniversary today and Eric arranged a babysitter so we could go to the movies. Lena sort of babysat the boys tonight. Tony was home but it was basically like Lena babysitting. They took the tablet with them. It appears that they did paper airplanes because when we got home I found a couple videos Lena recorded on the tablet.

Santa Breakfast

We took the boys to the Eagles for the Santa Breakfast. They had breakfast with all the other kids. Made ornament crafts out of paper. Tom made 15 of them :) And then Santa arrived. They were super excited. They even got a little present from Santa. I tried to get Tommy to donate the truck he got from Santa to the toy drive because we have 25 trucks at home. I think you can tell from the picture that he didn't donate it. Oh well.

Decorating for Christmas

The boys helped me decorate for Christmas this year. We didn't do a lot. But we did cut a little tree from the back yard since we have so many. They boys cut it down themselves. I put it up and put on a strand of lights and then the boys decorated it and also set up the little town. They had a lot of fun. I also found an elf on the shelf at Grannies. So we tried it out. At first the boys were not really into it. They thought it just looked like a toy. Tommy said his face looked like plastic. So I told them it was kind of like Toy Story where he doesn't come to like until kids aren't looking. They seemed to buy into that. Boy does it feel weird making up a big tale like this for them. They did seem to have fun looking around for him every day. December if very busy for me so I can really say I have been super creative though.

Cora's Birthday

The boys got invited to Cora's birthday at the movie theater to watch the movie Trolls. It was fun. Happy birthday Cora.

Family Pictures

Today for Eric's birthday my parents watched the boys and Eric and I went to lunch and a movie in Ruston. We tried to get a family picture since no one was wearing orange or had clothes with holes in it on. We didn't have a ton of cooperation. Happy birthday Eric.

Santa Parade

After wrestling today Tom was feeling well enough to go up and check out the Christmas parade and tree lighting. They had some free hot chocolate, cider and cookies and little crafts for the kids. Too bad it rained. But oh well.

5th Wrestling Tournament

Well, Tommy didn't make the tournament today. He was sick with a fever. But Jake wrestled today. His first match was really great. I looked like he got worn out at the end.

High School Home Meet

The Rockbusters went to the Vashon High School dual meet tonight to see how the big boys do it. They even got to do a little warm up on the mat under the spotlight. They are all pumped up for their tournament tomorrow.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Tommy is working on the short vowel sounds at school and putting it in words. So we practiced at home.

Bird, Mushroom & Salmon Hunt

The boys and I went on a bird, mushroom and salmon hunt today. We started at Fisher Pond. There were lots of ducks on the pond today. The lighting was spectacular to look at. But not the greatest to photograph or identify birds. We did see a heron and a Pileated Woodpecker though. When we weren't looking for birds we were searching for mushrooms. The boys really loved doing that. There were tons so they were easy to spot. And there were lots of different shapes and sizes. After we walked around the pond we went down to Shinglemill Creek to see if there were still any salmon trying to spawn. I hadn't really tried going there before so I wasn't sure how this was going to go. But it was literally right on the side of the road where you could go look for salmon. We looked for a little bit and then Tom, Jake and I decided to walk down to Fern Cove which didn't look very far. Eric stayed at the bridge at the top of the trail. It was only a 5 minute walk to Fern Cove and there were a lot of birds down there. Mostly seagulls from what I could see. But there was a heron and some ducks as well. And the boys could really see how strong the current was shooting out into the sound from the creek above. I explained to them this was what made it so difficult and exhausting for the salmon to make it up the creek. Then of course Eric comes down and said he saw a salmon swimming up the creek. We tried to go look but had no luck. Figures. But at least he got a video of it.

Fourth Wrestling Tournament

The boys had another wrestling tournament today. Jake had his first win! Tommy had a rough day as he was placed in a really tough group but he really tried hard. And they both had fun.

Thanksgiving

Tommy had a half day on Wednesday so I cut out of work early. I asked the boys what they wanted to do with our free time out of school. They wanted to make more paper turkeys. I also had some feathers lying around so we made a bunch of hand turkeys with feathers on them while I prepped our Thanksgiving dinner for the next day.

On Thanksgiving we went over to my Mom's for lunch. Wes was there too. He had to work retail at Best Buy Thanksgiving day at 6 PM so we had a short visit together. My Mom was working retail in the morning so she wanted to get to bed early. So after lunch we went home and had our Thanksgiving dinner. I made a 3 lb turkey breast and most of the fixings. The gravy just wasn't the same without all the drippings but it ate up OK.

I was a little sad for the boys that they didn't get to have a holiday like those of my youth with a house packed full of people and tons of cousins to play with. I really missed Grandma and Grandpa today.

Pig in a Blanket

Tom was messing around with his blankets and decided to roll himself up like a pig in a blanket. He thought it was so cool he insisted on sleeping on the floor this way tonight.

Sole Certificate Reward

Tommy got a Sole Certificate on Monday. This is a school recognition of him being caring and helpful to others. Even though he has had bumps in the road at school this is a big deal so I took him for a reward. After he got out early from his half day at school we had about an hour before we needed to pick up Jake. So I took him to the Burton Bike track again.

Adventure Day

We got back pretty early from the wrestling tournament. Before we even made it to the ferry the boys were asking me what we were going to do next. They asked if we could go on a beach walk. So we stopped at a couple different places. Hunted for birds. Threw some rocks. And got a little energy out. How did they still have energy after a wrestling tournament. Who knows. But it was a beautiful day to be outside.
