Long Beach

The family made it out to Long Beach again this year. We had a week with the family down at Long Beach again this year.  Had lots of fun although I probably should have slept a bit more on the trip. The boys played a lot of their video games, which they were excited about. I played a lot of board games with the crew. We only had one good day of boogie boarding. There was barely any tidal change so the waves were pretty weak. But the boys made a few sand castles. Jake carried on the tradition of being buried. Tommy played a lot of ladder ball. And he also get the crowd to play whiffle ball with him. He even made me take his bases with us. We hiked out to see the lighthouse. We discovered a new cove down there. I would tell you where it is but then I would have to kill you. It's my little secret 😉 Parking is limited and it was very beautiful. We happened to be there on the nicest sunniest day too. It looked like a scene from a movie. I was sad Eric could only make it on vacation with us for part of the trip. We haven't seen him much lately. But it was nice to see him when we did.

Strawberry Festival

The kids had fun at the Strawberry Festival. Tommy had fun making a chalk drawing while waiting for the parade. Jake worked on a Jenga tower for a long time over at Island Queen. They got to visit with Lena who was on her first work shift there clearing tables and washing dishes. We stopped by the Theatre to do the bouncy house. And also Pop Pop to play some video games. The kids brought their own money and blew through it on Saturday. Jake bought an origami flower. He visited that shop at least 3 times. And Tommy played the axe throwing game. They did win some Pikachu hats. We also did the car show and parade briefly on Sunday. The highlight was for sure the reptile man show they had on Sunday. It was something new they have never had before. The kids were so excited. Low point was Jake getting stung in the ear by a wasp when we were walking past the library. But we knew where the first aid tent was because uncle Tony was there. And he got all fixed up. And Tommy tried on the firefighter gear while we had stopped by.

Fireworks Show

After going home for some BBQ we headed back out for the fireworks show. Personal fireworks are not aloud any more on Vashon. Although some were still doing it. We went down to the Portage area to check things out. Tommy saw some of his friends and began sprinting down the road without us to go see them. I can't say I would watch them there again because there was constant traffic. But it was a good view of a great show. I think they had some of the biggest highest fireworks I have ever seen.

Kayaking to the Selig's

After taking a bit of rest post hydros, I took the boys up for the first swim lessons of the summer. And then we kayaked over to the Selig's. Eric wanted to try kayaking from Gold Beach over to Summerhurst. It took a while but we made it. Didn't help that we were paddling into the wind and Jake wasn't paddling so I had to pull him. We hung out with the Selig's and company for a little while and then headed back. I convinced him to pick us up at Sandy Shores on the way back instead since it was a lot closer. We lucked out that the weather was nice though. We thought it was going to be rainy all day.
