Fishing Derby

We took the boys and Lena to the fishing derby again this year. We went in with pretty low expectations as we did not catch a fish last year. Tommy was very interested in learning how to cast. So I had him do some practicing without a hook. It was very tough to get him to listen to all the steps but he eventually got the hang of it. The whistle blew and it was time to start fishing. I tried helping the boys watch the bobber and try to catch one. But attention span was not their things. We had a couple bites, but by the time we figured it out they had taken the bait and ran. Jake lost interest and started throwing sticks. Tom didn't want to leave his bobber sitting in the water, he just wanted to try and cast. And Lena somehow kept casting into the trees. So we did not catch any fish during the derby. No one seemed to upset, except Eric of course. He couldn't handle not catching anything. So he brought out his own pull with a spinner on it. He caught 8 fish. He let the kids reel them in so they did sort of get to fish.
